ANDREW KAY

Andrew was born and raised into a fun loving family of 5 in 1986 and lived most of his childhood life in Brampton, Ontario. He also lived in New Zealand for a year when he was 5 and England when he was 12. Surely these years abroad helped to develop the travel bug which fuelled his interest in travelling and seeing the world as an adult. As the youngest of 3 children Andrew was always finding his own way to do things. This planted the seeds of creativity and expression, and he explored many areas of the arts, from drawing, drama, and most proficiently music. Following in the footsteps of his older brother Jonathan, Andrew chose to play the saxophone. After excelling in the Musical Arts program at Mayfield Secondary School and the Humber Community Music School, Andrew choose to pursue a career in Music by attending the Jazz Performance Program at Humber Institute of Advanced Learning. While exploring his musical expression at Humber, Andrew discovered the music of India, which led him to travel there in 2006. In an intensive 5 weeks of studies and travel something transformed inside of him, which would forever change the course of his life. Upon his second trip to India in 2008 he entered into the ancient path of the Guru Shishya Parampara to seriously study Hindustani Raga music with his Guru, the incredible vocalist and musician Pandit Shantanu Bhattacharyya. Andrew spent the majority of next 8 years going deeper and deeper into the studies of the Ragas and it’s application on the Alto Saxophone, while also finding other ways to express his experiences of travelling and performing around India. Andrew developed a keen interest in the Himalayan Singing Bowls and created a unique set of tuned bowls to perform with. His also started to explore new modalities to use sound & vibration as a method of healing using the singing bowls and other sonic instruments. He shares his experience and knowledge of music, sound, and vibration through private music lessons, workshops, clinics, concerts, and private sound healing sessions.
